May Cheung

May Cheung (b. 2001) is a young artist and art student from Hong Kong. She studied design at Hong Kong Baptist University and is currently studying Bachelor of Arts in Cultural and Creative Industries at Hang Seng University in Hong Kong.

Cheung works mainly with the painting techniques watercolor and gouache. She is particularly fascinated by the transparency and blending properties of these techniques, which allow her to achieve distinct visual effects in her works. By mixing colour blocks together, she creates lifelike motifs and vibrating hues.

Her oeuvre is characterised by florid motifs in wet in wet technique, impressionistic painting strokes and dissolving forms. She likes to paint motifs from unusual points of view. Cheung specializes in and is inspired by nature and animals. Cheung studies the animal's exterior such as fur, pose, and eye contact. She also takes on assignments to paint people's pets. Her works reflect her observations and feelings, where she wants to touch the viewer's heart.

Cheung placed 2nd at the prestigious Hong Kong Youth Watercolour Painting Exhibition in 2022. She has participated in several group exhibitions, and she has been purchased by the Hong Kong Golden Bauhinia Art Research Institute and more than a dozen private collectors.
