Ellen Marie Delacour

Ellen Marie Delacour (b. 1965) was born and lives in Kristiansand in Norway, where she has her studio. She is educated in graphic design and 3D modelling. Delacour's intuitive approach to the painting medium has been underpinned by lessons and impulses from the Norwegian artists Torleif Torjussen and Olga Lyulchenco.

Delacour works a lot with the palette knife and adds details with a brush. By working layer upon layer, contours are formed on the canvas. The work Blomstereng i serie, no. 3 (Flower meadow in series, no 3) is from one of her series of studies of botany and biology. The vigorous growth of the flowers and the vibrating texture of the sky are a firework of life. This contrasts with good-weather veil clouds and pastel colours. The contrasts create a dynamic, which gives the subject energy, unrest, and tension.

Delacour grew up in a home very interested in art. Her great-grandfather was the famous Norwegian painter Rudolf Thygesen, and her great-great-grandfather Walter Smith (1836-1886) was a British art educator who founded the Massachusetts Art School in Boston. Her great-great-great grandfather, Benjamin Delacour (1794-1843), was a famous artist in France during his lifetime.

Ellen Marie Delacour has had several exhibitions in Norway, and she has, among other things, been purchased by Oasen Christian School and Blue Cross, and a number of private art collectors.
